An active adventure in the wilderness at Camp Tamok
We start with dog sledding on the first evening and, after spending the night in the Aurora Chalet, you can wake up to an exciting snowmobile safari through a magical winter wonderland. This adventure will require some physical effort, so it is an ideal choice if you feel energetic and ready to participate. This package allows you to experience the unique late evening atmosphere at Camp Tamok. Our guides and hosts will ensure you feel comfortable and welcome and, if you are lucky, you will experience the Northern Lights in the wilderness.
Upon arrival at Camp Tamok, we dress in warm winter gear and begin the adventure. Our professional guides will go through the safety instructions and a practical demonstration of how to mush your husky team. Two people share each sled and dog team. One is the “musher” (driver) and the other can sit back and enjoy the ride. You can switch places midway or at any time during the 10 km dog sledding trail. Depending on snow conditions, we will spend approx. 1 hr 30 min to complete the trail.
After mushing your team of dogs back to the camp, we will serve you a hot meal in a traditional North Norwegian setting around the open fire in a reindeer herder’s tent. This is a great place to relax before heading to your accommodation in the Aurora Chalet. The Aurora chalet has capacity for up to two adults. One of the roofs sides the Aurora Chalet has a window with a bed placed right under the window, at a perfect angle for watching the Northern Lights. The cabin has electricity but no running water.
After waking up, enjoying scenic views of the wilderness and eating breakfast, it is then time to follow our 11 km snowmobile ice fishing track that leads you between the snow-covered mountains up to a frozen lake. Lake Finn marks the halfway point of our snowmobiling adventure and is a good place to take photos, play in the snow, drive faster and try some ice fishing, if time and weather conditions permit. You will drive in pairs with one driver and one passenger per snowmobile and plenty of opportunities to switch places during the two-hour snowmobiling adventure.
After the snowmobiling adventure, we will serve you a hot meal in a traditional North Norwegian setting around the open fire. You can relax, warm up and reflect on an adventurous time before heading back to Tromsø.
