Remember The Arctic traveler mindset

You might arrive to gasp under the Aurora Borealis. You probably come for the whales and the beauty of nature. Or the Snowhotel Kirkenes. Any experience gets better with the right travelers mindset: Be amazed by the culture, the everyday life and the small things. Fall in love with the variations in weather. Enjoy the wind, the snow, the rain. Be in the moment. Feel alive.

Wish you amazing experiences. Øyvind. Snowhotel Kirkenes

Welcome to Camp Tamok

My job is to be a snowmobile guide, the most fantastic job in the world. And I am a lucky guide, because my days are spent in the wild mountains from Camp Tamok in direction of Finland. To see the look in the eyes of my guests as we stop into the wild a dark evening, under the full moon and a wind driving the snow on the mountain tops. It is life. It is a reward.

Dogsledding is my life

Like most of my dogsledding-guide-colleagues in Arctic Travel Company, either they are at Snøhotel Kirkenes or at Camp Tamok, my passion is my dogs. Most of us are even racing and letting the dogs do what they love the most; to run. It is a pleasure to share this with interested and enthusiastic guests coming here. All people that arrive and leave have changed a bit. They have been arctic explorers for a day. It is fantastic.

With love from Ingeborg. Camp Tamok.

A dedicated team adds to your experiences

Use the knowledge from our people. Interact and ask. Our team is who we are. These are the people that meet you, guide you and make your arctic adventure the memory it should be. When we travel, most of us look for a mix of experiences - the comfortable, the challenging, the romantic or just enjoying all the beauty mother nature offer.  We have discussed favorites, ideas or other stories with members of our team. On this page you find some of the things they like to share. It is obvious, but the answers are a good mix and should inspire something in all of you.

I hope you will have the best experience in your life. Cyril. Arctic Travel Company

King Crab, my friend.

Coming from Australia it was not completely obvious that I would end up fishing and serving king crabs or what some people call kamchatka or red king crab. Red is wrong, that name comes from the color after cooking. I love my work and hope my guests at Kirkenes Snøhotel feel it. I have fished and served tonns of this amazing crab to hundreds of happy people. Winter or summer. By snowmobile on the ice or by RIB on the open ocean. This is life. Please take detour or a whole journey up to visit Kirkenes. We are furtehr east than Istanbul, you know!

With love from Sii (Simon). Kirkenes Snøhotel.

It must be the whales

Watching the whales changed my life. They are fantastic. And I love cruising the fjords. Or going on an expedition cruise. Norway is so beautiful. I come from Portugal and have lived under the heat of the sun, but I love the magic of an arctic winter. My favorite activities besides whale watching and enjoying this remarkable city of Tromsø, is now cross country skiing. I have just taken lessons. Difficult, but fun.

Northern Norway for everyone

The land of the midnight sun. The land of the Northern Lights. The land of fjords and alps. The land of traditional sami-culture and places like Tromsø, the arctic capital with the most northern university in the world. You don´t have to look like an explorer or talk like a passionate adventurer. We like to think people of any kind should experience arctic adventures. Of course Arctic Travel Company is dedicated. Northern Norway is not a museum. It is not made up for tourism. This is real. Real arctic life. You find nothing like it around the globe. Really not.

Love from Fredrik. Camp Tamok

"...The luxury of silence and unspoiled nature..."

"...A visit to the north is not a visit to an amusement park or something staged. This is real life. Real nature", says Marika. "And we are directors of our own experiences. All of us. We are all authors of our own stories...."

Midnight sun and summer

It is midwinter and sitting here by the campfire, which is great, I come to think of the period between late May and late July. The months of the midnight sun. The contrasts could not be bigger. It never gets dark, the meaning of hours is upended. Summer is for various reasons low season in this part of Norway. The region is a popular winter destination for tourists seeking the northern lights, but summer is mainly for locals, hikers, bikers, climbers, campers, and other adventurers. It shouldn´t be. It is fantastic and beautiful.
